Maybe you know by now that I like this alternative R&B with that dark water vibe; when you can't just figure out either the artist is flying or floating, drowning or falling or just comfortable with his depressive mood. Abra is one of them. She has the name of a Pokemon but she calls herself Dark Wave Dutchess which fits her pretty good. I've discovered her wet darkness, just a couple of hours ago. Right on time for my Friday Fresh Tune. ENJOY + LOVE + SHARE
Stevy Mahy is a French artist from Guadeloupe. In fact I should say, she's a "Renaissance Woman". She is singer, song-writer, jewelry designer, radio host, among others talents. But, this post is focused on music, so let's focus (don't worry, I'll be sharing all the links at the end of the article). So. Her music has been baptized "Kreyol Folk", she sings in English, Creole, French and it sounds like guava marmalade. I know, it might sound cliché but actually, that's how it feels to me. It sounds so sweet and puts me such in a peaceful mood. Her debut album " The Beautiful Side Of A Kreyol Folk Trip" as been the lovely soundtrack of sweet moments of my life.
I've worked with her a few years ago and we kept in touch since then, sharing some chats about womanhood and "independent artistry business". Yeah, inexhaustible subject indeed. I was obviously looking forward to hear new music from her. It came first with "Ban Di'W". I absolutely love that song! It's melancholic with a swaying Caribbean groove, she has a sensitive emotion in her voice, singing words in Creole that I understand just enough to be happily humming along with her. I highly recommend that song although "Ban Di'W" is not my Friday Fresh Tunes. This week, it's "Call Me", Stevy's latest single, released last Christmas, from her upcoming album "Renaissance Woman".
Stevy brings her emotional signature voice, the Folk presence is still main but there's a soft-rock kinda vibe somehow. Stevy seems to have been lifted by love and this song is like a free-fall where she catches a air pocket, turbulences, fighting to keep herself flying, hoping for this Love to call...
